What Happened to Michelle Vilborg?

michellevilborg50-year-old Michelle Vilborg from Bay Minnett, Alabama, was enjoying a 5-night cruise to Mexico on board Carnival Cruise Line’s Holiday ship with her husband, Sven on June 15, 2009. She was celebrating turning the big 5-0.On this last night together, the couple had explored the boat, ate at a buffet, and enjoyed a couple of drinks while planning the next day’s events. At this time, Michelle had taken some medication for seasickness.

Sven stated that the couple returned to their cabin at about 10:30 p.m. Michelle decided to take a shower before turning in for the night. Sven heard her turn the shower on before falling asleep. 45 minutes later the stopping of the cruise ship woke him up. At 11:00 p.m., a witness claimed he or she heard a big splash in the water and alerted ship authorities. When the cruise ship came to a stop between 11:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m., Sven immediately worried about Michelle because she was no longer in the cabin. A ship-wide alarm had gone off, people were cramming the hallways, and he knew this meant someone had gone overboard. After a head count by authorities, Michelle was the only one missing. read more
