The Suspicious Death of Alfred Wright

Warning! Super long post!

When I hear the town name Jasper, and it just happens to be in Texas, I immediately think of James Byrd, Jr. I’m sure you do, too. On June 7, 1998, one of the worst cases of racial crimes occurred here. James Byrd, Jr. age 48, was dragged for three miles behind a pick-up truck on an asphalt road. He remained conscious throughout most of the terrifying ordeal and was killed when his body hit the edge of a culvert, severing his head and right arm. The murderers – Shawn Berry, Lawrence Russell Brewer, and John King – then drove on for another mile before dumping his torso in front of an African-American cemetary. The horrific crime shocked the nation. read more

No Justice Yet for Melissa Platt

Melissa PlattOn October 3rd, 2008, 31-year-old Melissa Platt was brutally beaten and left wrapped in a blanket at her North Carolina home until October 8th when her mother, feeling that something was not right, called police to do a welfare check on her daughter. When they found Melissa, she was immediately life-flighted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where she underwent an immediate craniotomy. She suffered severe bruising all over her body, her jaw was broken on both sides and there were strangulation marks on her neck. On top of all that, her brain was bleeding and she had developed a blood clot.

Melissa had been fighting for her life all alone for days before help came.

She remained in ICU until December 17th when she passed away from her injuries.

Now here is where the injustice part comes in. Her boyfriend had changed his stories numerous times and he was never charged with her murder. He claimed she sustained these injuries from a fall in the bathroom. read more

Who Murdered Nikki LaDue January?

Nikki Ladue JanuaryOn July 29, 2002, 30-year-old Nikki LaDue January was found dead shortly before 10:00 a.m. from a single gunshot to her head. Her body was located on the balcony of her third floor condo in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Despite evidence to the contrary, within two hours after police arrived, her death was ruled a suicide. Her family has often said Nikki would not have committed suicide.

Nikki had been married to Phil January for less than two years and both were employed at Grand Casino. Friends described January as a jealous control freak who Nikki feared. Once a fun-loving, happy woman, Nikki became a loner who was afraid to socialize with her fellow workers. January often had his spies watching her.

Nikki had a five-year-old son, Zachary, from a previous marriage to co-worker, Mike Williams. Nikki adored Zack, so the notion that she would intentionally do something to take herself completely away from him forever seemed ludicrous to those who knew her. read more
